Proton Malaysia Open Super Series 2010 (January 19 - January 24)
Kumpoo sponsored player, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand, came runner up in the Proton Malaysia Open Super Series 2010.
During the first round, Ponsana played the rookie out of China, Long Chen, and defeated him in three sets.
With out rest to clear up his fatigue, Ponsana played his second round against Andrew Smith from England. Even though Smith's world ranking is lower than Ponsana, his experience proved to be a tough match for him. Ponsana was able to catch up on his game, and win the match in two straight sets.
The quarter final match was against Malaysia's own Wei Feng Chong. Even though, Chong had the home ground advantage, Ponsana was able to defeat him in 2 straight sets.
On the 23rd, Ponsana participated in the semi-final round against world ranking No.2, Peter Gade of Denmark. Since last year, Ponsana has had a good record against Gade, defeating him in the China Masters. The world 2nd ranker move Ponsana left to right and took the first set. The second game, both players fought viciously for every point, but Ponsana was able to break out and take the game with consecutive points. The final set was also a close match and was tied at 8-8. Ponsana once again took the lead from Gade and claimed his spot in the finals.
In the finals, Ponsana met with the No.1 world ranker, Chong Wei Lee from Malaysia. They met in the quarter-finals of the Korean Open just a week before, and Ponsana sought to get his revenge. The first game was close. Ponsana kept a one point lead all the way to 12-12. Lee came up in the second half of the game to dominate the first set. The second set started with Lee getting a 9 point lead, and with the support of the home crowd, swept the 2nd set.
Ponsana has had a great start this year, making it to the quarter-finals in Korea and runner up at the Malaysia Open. Together with Przemyslaw Wacha, both players will use Kumpoo gear to challenge the world
