July 6, 2026 — At the recently concluded 2026 Canada Open (Super 300), several Team Kumpoo athletes competed against some of the world's top badminton players. Although the team did not reach the podium, every player gave their all on court and gained valuable experience for the challenges ahead.

In the men's singles event, Finnish star Kalle Koljonen faced an experienced Israeli opponent in the opening round. Displaying outstanding speed, court coverage, and precise shot placement, he secured a 2–1 victory to advance to the second round. In the Round of 16, Kalle took on a young Canadian player competing on home soil but was ultimately defeated, ending his campaign in the last 16. Despite the result, his competitive form and fighting spirit throughout the tournament were commendable.

Fellow Malaysian men's singles player Cheam June Wei unfortunately exited in the opening round. Team Kumpoo looks forward to seeing him regroup and come back stronger in the upcoming tournaments.

In the mixed doubles and women’s doubles event, Catherine Choi and Gronya Somerville each competed with their respective partners. Through battles against strong international opponents, both players gained a clearer understanding of the areas they need to improve, providing valuable direction for their future training and development.

Every match is an opportunity to grow, and every tournament brings new lessons. Team Kumpoo will continue to embrace the spirit of Take the Challenge, learning from every experience, refining every detail, and returning stronger for the next competition.
