October 18, 2026 — Team Kumpoo athletes took to the court at the recently concluded Sydney International 2026, with Australian doubles specialist Nozomi Shimizu delivering a notable performance by reaching the semifinals in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
As a key member of the team, Shimizu took on two events at this tournament. She and her partners worked well together in women’s and mixed doubles. With neat net play and smooth transitions between attack and defence, they won a string of tough matches to reach the semi-finals in both draws, showing once again her strong ability as a doubles player.
Other Team Kumpoo athletes also featured at the tournament. Karono featured in men’s singles, while new team member Josephine Wu competed in mixed doubles, continuing to find her competitive rhythm through match play. Maureen Wijaya featured in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles, advancing to the Round of 16 in mixed doubles.
Competition serves as the best measure of training gains. Regardless of the results, these clashes with top opponents offered the athletes a chance to refine technical details and chart their next steps. Team Kumpoo will continue to uphold its spirit of “Take the Challenge,” supporting every athlete as they take steady strides, build momentum, and chase honours at upcoming tournaments.
