March 16, 2026 — At the conclusion of the 2026 Ruichang China Masters, several Team Kumpoo athletes competed on the same stage, demonstrating the team’s collective strength through determination and perseverance. Malaysian men’s singles player Cheam June Wei advanced to the semifinals, while Australian star Gronya Somerville delivered a strong performance in the women’s doubles event. Many Team Kumpoo members also gained valuable experience through high-level competition.

Cheam June Wei showed excellent form throughout the tournament. In the first three rounds, he defeated his opponents in straight games (2:0), progressing comfortably and displaying strong dominance on court. In the semifinal, he faced rising Chinese talent Sun Chao, who eventually claimed the title. Against a physically strong opponent, Cheam relied on his experience and refined technique to push the match to three intense games. Although he narrowly missed a place in the final, finishing among the top four, his fighting spirit earned the respect and applause of the crowd.

In the women’s doubles competition, Gronya Somerville and her partner demonstrated excellent chemistry and veteran composure. In the quarterfinal, at the crucial moment when the match stood level at 1:1, Somerville relied on her consistency and on-court adaptability to help guide the pair into the next round. Although they were eventually defeated in the semifinal by the tournament’s eventual champions, every point she fought for on court reflected the Kumpoo spirit of “Take the Challenge”.

At this year’s Ruichang China Masters, multiple Team Kumpoo athletes took part in the competition. Thai player Korakrit Laotrakul competed in the men’s singles event, Australian player Tiffany Ho participated in women’s singles, Canadian star Catherine Choi competed in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles, Australian athlete Nozomi Shimizu took part in women’s doubles, and Hong Kong, China player Chan Yin Chak appeared in the mixed doubles event.
