June 15, 2026, At the recently concluded Phuket International Challenge 2026, Team Kumpoo member and Malaysian star Cheam June Wei delivered an outstanding performance, battling his way through the draw to secure the Men's Singles Runner-up title and bring another impressive result to the team.
Cheam entered the tournament in excellent form and displayed remarkable consistency throughout the week. In the opening rounds, he cruised past his opponents with a series of straight-game victories, advancing confidently into the later stages of the competition. In the quarterfinals, he faced a strong challenger from Korea. The Korean player controlled the pace of the opening game and took an early lead in the match. Facing adversity, Cheam remained composed and quickly adjusted his tactics to level the contest.
The deciding game became a tense battle, with both players trading points throughout. At the crucial moment, Cheam produced a decisive winner with the support of his Kumpoo Asura II racket, sealing a dramatic 23–21 victory and securing his place in the next round.
In the final, Cheam faced a rising Japanese talent born in 2006. The two players fought through a hard-fought three-game encounter. Despite giving everything he had on court, Cheam's physical condition began to fade late in the match, and he ultimately fell short, finishing as runner-up.
Although he narrowly missed the title, his determination, resilience, and mental toughness throughout the tournament earned the respect and applause of spectators.
Several other Team Kumpoo athletes also competed at the Phuket International Challenge. Korakrit Laotrakul represented the team in men's singles, Dalila Aghnia Puteri competed in women's singles, Lwi Sheng Hao took part in men's doubles, while Catherine Choi competed in both women's doubles and mixed doubles. Every swing of the racket and every hard-fought point represents another step toward a higher stage of competition.
